The Children's Hour (2014)

I wandered lonely as a Cloud (2020)
SATB, a cappella
Text: William Wordsworth (1770–1850)
2021 winner of Chicago a cappella's HerVoice competition. Aleatoric choral parts underlay solo lines in this piece, written during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The work is an impressive feat of text-painting: Performers can sing
lines slightly staggered to create a hazy, pillowing effect. The ebb
and flow of the text clouds...rightly latches onto the ephemerality of
Wordsworth’s original, not its pretty scenery.”

Peace (2024)
SATB divisi, a cappella, 3:00
Text: Sara Teasdale (1884–1933)
Sustained slow notes in the lower voices portray peaceful waters while top voices take the tune. As the piece progresses, it expands into divided choirs of treble and low voices. This vocal orchestration is then combined to form a climactic SSAATTBB choir. The rhetorical peaceful waters of peace swells and rises in the climax, then recedes back to repeated word, “peace, peace…” for a calm conclusion.
